During 2017 a new Cemetery was created, and for the first time ever, was to be in Rishton. Situated along Lee Lane, new gates were erected entering on land bought from the Dunkenhalgh estate, and was previously farmed by Norden.
The reason for this new cemetery being created was due to Great Harwood cemetery becoming full to capacity.
The Cemetery officially opened in February the following year.
It is a multi-faith cemetery, and also contains a woodland area for those wishing to be remembered by tree planting. The drainage on the land has been diverted and collected, to allow the natural formation of a pond area.
Work actually started on the cemetery several years before, when the council officials were seen taking soil samples from the fields along Lee Lane. Empty fields have been left on both sides of the cemetery, and during 2019 these fields went up for sale.
The first burial in the graveyard was a Muslim burial.
