On the 22nd June 1911, George was crowned King George V at Westminister Abbey in London.

His wife was also crowned Queen Mary.

To celebrate this occassion every child in rishton was presented with a coronation medal. This was done for most towns and villages throughout England.

The above picture shows the front of the medal, with King George V and Queen Mary together. The wording round the edge says the same.

The reverse of the medal has the words "THE URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL OF RISHTON 22 JUNE 1911" around the outer edge, and a list of the current chairman and members of the council listed within it.

A copy of this medal is now held by Rishton website for display after being donated.
