Tottleworth is reputed to be the first place in the Country to weave Calico on an industrial scale.

In 1776 Thomas Duxbury, of Rishton, near Blackburn, sold to Messrs Peels, Yates and Co., Church Bank, two common fine calico pieces for £5 9s 6d. These were the first pieces ever manufactured in the Kingdom.

In 1814, this business was dissolved. An article in the press announced the demise of the business between Jonathon Calvert, John Fielden, James Fielding, and William Fielding.
