The 5th Rishton Brownies were formed in 1994 as it was felt at the time that Rishton needed another Brownie Unit, which could attract children from all the different denominations, even though there were already 3 other Church units in the town.
The original members were Joan Eddleston who was the guider in charge. Joan has since left and moved to Clitheroe. Hazel Casey, who is the Brown Owl, Judith Dowling, and shortly after came Debbie Iddon (nee Kay) and Claire Nicholson. Claire had previously been associated with the Saint Charles brownies.
When Joan retired from the troop, Debbie and Judith continued with running the group. Denise Haworth and Julie Rawcliffe becoming new assistants.
The group started with just 10 members in 1994, now they have a full 28 and a very healthy waiting list!
Over the years they have made many things, visited plenty of places, and raised money for different charities. They have yearly weekend pack holidays to Waddow Hall at Clitheroe, and also to the Scout Headquarters' at Lytham Saint Annes.
They won their first trophy in June 1999, in the annual Great Harwood and Rishton Rounders Competition, and went on to retain the trophy in the following year!
