Sergeant Vincent Carter (23), of the Rifle Brigade, and whose parents live at 56, Hermitage street, Rishton, was killed in action under circumstances reported in last Saturday's "Times".
The deceased, who enlisted during the second month of the war, was formerly a weaver.
He was actively associated with the Congregational Sunday School, being an earnest and willing worker.
He was in the Rifle Brigade, and from an Army chaplain and deceased's commanding officer letters have been received testifying to the soldierly qualities and high character of the deceased.
