Cecil Street is found towards the top of Parker Street, on the right hand side. The street doesn’t go anywhere, and one of these days I will carry a tape around to find out which is the shortest street!
The street runs to the back alley that overlooks Holt Street Recreation Ground. This leads to the assumption that houses were once planned for this street, but the rec was laid instead.
There are old plans available that show Cecil Street running across the recreation ground and joining up with James Street and Holt Street, but the street was never built.
The street also leads to a couple of allotment entrances that are situated between the back street of Parker Street, and the recreation ground.
On the 15th December 1936, The Council Clerk reported the subsidence in Parker Street on the street pave crossing at the junction of Parker Street and Cecil Street.
