Post Code: BB1 4HP.
Named after George Pickup, who was the owner of Rishton Colliery, and also, I believe, once owned the corner house here.
Pickup Road is one of the turnings off Station Road, and is a Cul De Sac.
One of the strange things about this road is the way that it splits. Pictured on the right is the new Pickup Road that runs at 90 degrees from Station Road, and had new semi detached houses along its length, but if you take a few steps in you will find on the left another street with a block of terraced houses built around the turn of the 19th Century.
This part of the street runs in line with Saint Charles Road, which is right behind it.
It gives the impression that the new builders couldn’t be bothered keeping in line with every other street before it and choose to run theirs at a 45 degree angle.
The road on the older part of Pickup Street was, for many years, made up of loose shale and gravel, until the newer part of the street was built and the road tarmaced.
