Blackburn Old Road

Post Code: BB1 4AB.

Running from the New Inns to Sunnybower and Little Harwood, this road was once described as steep and mountainous by travellers, the surface being rough, and the climb from Blackburn to the Rishton boundary very steep for Horses to handle.

The road passes over Cunliffe Quarry on the left, and Windy Bank Farm on the right, before moving into Blackburn.

On the 11th December 1941, the Rishton Urban District Council made an application, which was forwarded to the County Surveyor for Blackburn Old Road to be included in the list of Unclassified Secondary Roads.

The application for the classification of all unclassified roads Nos.367, 373, 374 and 378 was not successful on the 11th July 1946, and only the portion of Road 367 (Whalley Old Road) from Blackburn boundary to Harwood Road junction and 388 (Harwood Road), were classified by the Ministry of Transport. The length classified is one mile.
