Ron Grenier lives in Carolina, USA, and although he knew that a place called Rishton existed in the United Kingdom, he had never visited it or the UK. These postcards were sent to him from his family who lived in Rishton many years ago.
These postcards were sent to someone who didn't have a clue about Rishton, what it looked like (except for the postcards) or even where it was in the U.K. That was until he contacted me.
Included in this text is the writing from the postcard, in the hope of showing how someone explains Rishton to a person who has never visited!
I think most of the pictures for these postcards were taken by the Counsells, to which I am indebted. I would like to thank Ron's daughter I think it was, who scanned and sent the images to me.
Ron says, "These were sent to my Great Grandfather. He was born in Rishton in 1875. He was married in 1900 in the U.S. and died in 1965. The postcards were apparently sent to him from his cousins but I don't have the letters that were with them. There is writing on most of them. Some of the writing is from the cousins, and some looks to be written by him explaining what is in the picture. I don't mind sharing what is written with you. It may help you determine the date or location of the photo."
The pictures and text have been used with kind permission from Ron Grenier. If anyone could help Ron with his family tree please do get in touch with us. Most of these images have been used throughout this website already.Click here to view the photo collection.
